When developing an Enterprise Architecture vision for microservices and microservice deployments it is good to combine both the Four Zones of Trust model and the Microservices Layered Architecture model.

Combining both in a company wide enterprise architecture will ensure a higher level of uniformity of placement for the individual services as well as ensuring a higher level of security.

Four Zones of Trust
The Four Zones of Trust model comes from a domain driven design method where you will place sub-components in one of the zones of the model and very clearly define how communication can and cannot cross the border of zone.

Four Zones of Trust

The four zones of trust consist out of a untrusted zone, a semi-trusted zone, a trusted zone and a fully trusted zone. A more detailed explanation on the four zones of trust can be found in this article.

Microservice Layered Architecture
The Microservice Layered Architecture model defines the layers of microservices and their role in the end2end solution. This model is a common used model for large microservice based deployments.
